2018 Lakbay Simbahan sa Rizal

The Pilgrims’ Journey to Rizal Churches

(Media and Communications Ministry)

With excitement and hope, overcoming the almost payday Friday fatigue and the still relatively cold morning, some 600 pilgrims trooped to the Mt. Carmel Parish Church on March 17, 2018 for the Lakbay Simbahan.

The destinations – the 7 parish churches in Rizal province

  1. Our Lady of Light (Cainta)
  2. St. Clement (Angono)
  3. St. Ursula (Binangonan)
  4. St. Jerome (Morong)
  5. St. Joseph (Baras)
  6. San Ildefonso de Toledo (Tanay), and
  7. St. Mary Magdalene (Pililia).

Loaded in ten buses all, the pilgrims visited the churches one by one, only 30 minutes or less apart from each other, even with the narrow town roads.

The 7 churches are at least 200 years old. St. Mary Magdalene is already 465 years old, its ceiling adorned with life-like mural paintings, so is St. Clement, both miniature versions of Sistine Chapel in Vatican.

Some churches have chandeliers hanging and dazzling like stars in heavens, and sprawling yards and massive foundations and walls befitting of ancient castles. Indeed, Catholic churches of the Philippines are some of the most beautiful pieces of architecture and art in the country.

In all the churches, the pilgrims offered a dedicated prayer. The pilgrims had to walk about 200 to 300 meters under the burning heat of the sun to reach the church, quite a sacrifice especially for the elderly pilgrims. But they braved it rather cleverly, riding in a tricycle.

At St. Ursula located on a hill, the pilgrims took the stairs to go up to the church, recalling a classic scene of early pilgrimages.

Why do millions of Catholics worldwide join in a Visita Iglesia year in and year out?

But how to get there? Is it enough to visit at least 7 churches every Lent in our lifetime to get there?

Amid the happy frenzy of selfies, groufies, food, and souvenirs, if we don’t lose focus of the spiritual purpose of Visita Iglesia, a pilgrimage can be a way to eternal life in heaven.

The Cross – the only bridge to Resurrection

Jesus Christ Himself was broken, so everybody is broken. His passion and death represent brokenness. But that is even less than half of our true life in Jesus.

To leave or to love? Selfishness or selflessness? To face the ultimate sacrifice or to run away?

According to Fr. Oscar Lucas, OMI, speaker at the Mt. Carmel Parish Lenten Recollection held on March 14, 2018,that was the singular question Jesus asked Himself when he was on the cross.

When life is good and easy, people tend to forget or reject God. So Jesus tests His followers to make them remember Him, follow His teachings, and make them closer to Him.

We cannot be blessed with resurrection without taking up our own cross, our only bridge to everlasting life and joy in God’s heaven.   (George Arceno)

2017 Advent Recollection

2017 Advent

Last December 6, the Parish conducted its Advent Recollection for the parishioners to contemplate on the true meaning of Advent and to prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. The recollection was given by Fr. Gilb2017 Advent Recollectionert Fortunato Dumlao, Parish Priest of Sto. Niño Shrine and Head of the Diocesan Vocation Ministry. With the theme “Joy”, he emphasized the ways to be happy as we await for the coming of our Savior; it is through never giving up and trusting God’s plan for us (Hope), experiencing and sharing the love of God thus letting His presence endure forever (Faith), and reconciling all things to Jesus and with one another (Peace).

In line with the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons, Fr. Gilbert asked the parishioners to always be a mirror of joy to others and to continue praying for the clergy because it is through the Church that we can achieve the happiness in life. This advent, we are invited to look at our lives, and our relationship with God and with each other. It is a time of prayer and renewal, and letting Jesus enter our hearts as we share him with everyone. Let us learn to recognize him among us and welcome him with joy.

Written by Angie Sajona on . Posted in Uncategorized

Niño, (4) Vicariate of Santa Rita de Cascia, (5) Vicariate of San Pedro Bautista, and (6) Vicariate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Ang nasabing Agenda ay may layuning ganito: “Within the period of 5 years (2012-2017) the Bishop, priests, religious and laity of the Diocese of Cubao, moving together as a community of disciples and having been renewed, will undertake the mission of new and integral evangelization; thus becoming vibrant local church committed towards total human development”.

Ben Arseño, na kura paroko ng Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.
